Abstract

This article discusses the importance of using study cards in teaching reading skill and simultaneously introduces several types of study cards which can be used in pre-reading in the case of Vietnam. This article also presents the instructions, procedures and important notes when utilizing study cards for specific content in a reading lesson in the competence-based approach. To achieve the results above, several research methods were used including document analysis, pedagogical observation, survey and pedagogical experiments. The results suggest that using study cards in teaching reading skill in primary schools is expected to be of vital importance and contributed towards improving primary students’ reading competence and the quality of teaching and learning.
