Abstract

In Japan, the term corporate social responsibility (CSR) has been used since the 1970s. However, it was not until the 1990s, the inner meaning and implementing method of the term CSR adopted by businesses and stakeholders have adequate and systematic access. CSR has become a concern of the whole Japanese society, an integral part of large-scale enterprises and a mandatory content in corporate performance reports. After more than 20 years, Japan is considered as the leading country in implementing CSR with a large number of enterprises with a specialized CSR department and publishing annual reports on sustainable development and CSR.
