Non-performing assets have rapidly increased in India, especially in public sector banks, which have had an effect on the profitability of the banking sector, mainly public sector banks in India. NPAs influence the lending ability of banks, resulting in low income for banks. As the banking sector is the backbone of the economy, rising NPAs are a challenge to India's economy. This paper attempts to explain the non-performing assets and the factors behind high NPAs. In this paper, we compare Gross NPA, Gross NPA growth rate and Public Sector Banks and Private Sector Banks Return on Assets.
