Public Relations and Image Management in the Banking Sector: A Study of Selected Banks in Cross River State

Abstract

The study, titled: Public Relation and Image Management in the Banking Sector: A Study of Selected Banks in Cross River State, is an attempt towards establishing the image and strategies as adopted by the banking sector with particular reference to First bank, United bank for Africa, Ecobank and Fidelity bank in Calabar metropolis have yielded the desired goals and objectives. It further investigated how the images of the banks can be effectively managed via public relations efforts. Organizational Image Management theory was adopted. The method adopted in the study was survey. The research findings revealed that, the selected banks in Calabar metropolis despite tough competitions in the banking industry are able to surmount image problems, especially with its adoption of modern system of service delivery. From its field survey, the study came up with a number of fundamental findings on the issue of image management. The study concluded that the banks have consequently increased the customers’ patronage. It recommends that more packages should be introduced in the banks to enhance further productivity. Also, the existing facilities such as the credit facilities, customers oriented services, among others should be enhanced and sustained.
